Do you often find yourself asking people to repeat what they just told you ‘cuz you simply forgot?
When people give you a list or phone number do you need them to give it you one by one as you write it down or else you find yourself forgetting and asking them to repeat it?
Do things take longer then you like because you always have to go back to check because you don’t remember anymore?
I feel you. I’ve struggled with working memory for the longest time.
And I’d like to share with you the exercise to solve this issue.
Working memory is memory needed to do a task.
If you are making macaroni you don’t need to remember the macaroni needs to cook in the pot for 9 minutes once you are enjoying the food.
You only need to remember 9 minutes while you are doing the task of making the macaroni.
Personally, I struggled with working memory for the longest time.
And I tried everything - all the games, all the exercises, the digital, the printouts, everything. Nothing helped.
Every time someone gave me a phone number I would ask them about 12 times because they’d say the whole number (even 3 of the numbers) but I’d only get the first number and then would get confused and have to ask them to repeat it again and again.
Even my mom knew, if she was giving me more than 1 thing to do, she’d want me to write it down ‘cuz otherwise I’d forget.
When you’ve got strong working memory you don’t have to go over things 600 times. You remember it the first time without having to waste time going over it again or having to ask people to repeat what they just said.
Finally, I came up with this exercise I’m about to share with you and it changed everything.
Just a quick heads up, this exercise is not particularly a fun exercise.
I found it easiest to do with other people. So, if you have a friend who struggles with working memory also, block out 15 minutes a day for the next 3 weeks so you can do it together.
Grab a pen, paper and phone. Let's do the exercise that finally helped me improve my working memory.
