Megan ran a business helping others hire overseas VAs, but ironically, she was stuck in her own systems.
She had a very clear idea of the right way to do things… so clear, that it was hard for her brain to even consider there might be another way
That mental rigidity made it hard to see what the real problems were, come up with creative solutions and slowed everything down.
Once we improved one thinking skill, her brain opened up.
Two weeks later, she had already shaved time off her workflows and cut out a whole lot of unnecessary frustration.
While you are doing any task, you (without even realizing it!) are using your 28 thinking skills.
When the thinking skills you need to use are strong, doing the task happens easily.
If the thinking skill you need to use is weak, doing the task will be a challenge.
The struggle that Megan had came from a weak thinking skill of Clear Perception.
Clear perception is your brain’s ability to take in a lot of information (fast!) and organize it in a way that actually makes sense.
When clear perception is weak, even simple tasks can feel overwhelming.
Your brain gets flooded with details, but can’t sort them.
Everything comes in at the same volume, the same priority, the same urgency.
It’s like trying to drink from a firehose.
You’re getting a lot, but you’re not actually absorbing much.
Megan's brain wasn’t filtering what mattered most.
She was taking in everything her VA clients said, all the possible tools, systems, and requests… but instead of streamlining, it just made everything more cluttered and chaotic.
Once we strengthened her clear perception, she was able to quickly process what was actually important, sort it mentally, and move forward without the mental chaos.
That’s what allowed her to cut her workflow time dramatically without sacrificing quality, because her brain stopped spinning in all directions.
3 Ways we worked on Clear Perception to take in a lot of information at once:
1) Instead of jumping right into action mode, give yourself time to take in the information.
Know that right now, what you’re doing is taking in information.
Not making decisions, not figuring out next steps. Right now my job is to take information.
2) As you take in the information, say out loud what you see and what you’re thinking.
This is part of project B, this is repeating what she told me last week etc… This way you’re using more parts of your brain to process the information
3) Finding the big domino
Instead of getting overwhelmed by everything, see if there’s one big piece of action you can take that will solve a lot of the problems.
Your challenge this week is to pick one of the 3 ways we spoke about to get more in formation in a clear an orgized way:
1) Give yourself time to take in the information
2) Say outloud what you’re seing and thinking
3) Find the big domino
