Why You Need a Growth Mindset

CUSTOM JAVASCRIPT / HTML

Why do you need a growth mindset? What’s the benefit?

Real Life Challenge

Imagine you got this epic product idea.
You contact investors, try to build it and even meet with other inventors but the product never comes to fruition.

Four years later you see YOUR product on the market, someone else had the idea and action got it one the shelves.
How do you feel?

What's a Growth Mindset?

Building physical products are a real challenge, most things in business actually are and if you don’t have a growth mindset, your business is not going to grow very fast, if at all.

So, what’s a growth mindset?

Carol Dweck, Psychologist at Stanford University, wanted to know what makes people successful.
She did intense research and discovered it’s not talent, money or brains - it’s mindset.

There are 2 types of Mindsets:
1. Fixed Mindset - You think the way you are born is the way you’ll be forever, and you can’t change much.
2. Growth Mindset - You know with hard work you’ll be able to achieve whatever you want too.

People with a growth mindset don’t give up when things get tough.
They recognize mistakes and feedback are part learning processes and leverage it to move forward.

If you’ve got a growth mindset, you’ll be able to learn that new skill, sign on more clients and grow your business.
If not, as soon as things get too hard, you’ll give up and join the 80% of business owners who close down within the first 5 years of business.

Most of us have both a fixed and growth mindset in different things.
The goal is to recognize when you're having a fixed mindset and switch it to a growth mindset.

4 Ways to Develop a Growth Mindset

Here are some ways to develop your growth mindset in all areas of your life:

1. Watch your language. Saying you can’t do something is fastest way for you to not do it. Add the word "yet" to what you are already saying. "I can't write a book, yet." or "I don't know how to create systems, yet."

2. Always be learning. People with growth mindset don’t think they know everything and are always growing.

3. Leverage feedback. Instead of getting defensive when people criticize you or give you honest feedback, have an open mind, see if it’s true and make changes as necessary.

4. Recognize you are going to make mistakes and that’s okay. Mentally prepare yourself for setback so you can get back on your feet quickly.

Your Challenge

Your challenge this week is to find something you have a fix mindset in and change it to growth mindset.

What’s something you think you’ll never be able to?
What’s something you’ve gave up on in the past?
What’s something that feels like a like only others can do?

Change your language on that thing, learn more about, leverage your feedback and remember you are going to make mistakes. It’s part of the process.

Your growth mindset will grow every day! =)
