Believe it or not, if you’re brain controls you, you may be struggling with the cognitive deficiency of blocking.

Cognitive Functions

Thinking is not one big thing. Thinking is made up of 28 parts called cognitive functions.

When one of them are weak it’s called a cognitive deficiency and makes it hard for you to do your daily tasks.

Blocking is a cognitive deficiency where you feel like a wall stopping you from doing the thing you want to do.

You’re not incapable of doing this task.
The blocking is just so strong and is controlling you, not allowing you to do what you want to do.
But you can learn to rewire your brain so it’s no longer an issue.

Overcoming Blocking

A major component to overcoming blocking is growth mindset.

Growth mindset is about believing you can do it, learn new things and it’s okay to fail because you’ll learn from it. In episode 352 we went deep into growth mindset and discussed ways for you to get better at it.


Once you have the growth mindset, how do you actually overcome it?

By making a starting point.

A starting point is exactly what it sounds like, the very first step you have to take.

If you're trying to clean your desk it would be to put all the garbage in the garbage.
If you want to set a table, it begins by putting on the tablecloth.
If you need to send a text it would mean opening up your phone.

What’s really important at this stage is to take 1 step without thinking about the next 30 steps.
Once you do the first step, take the next, then the next and eventually you’ll break down the wall and get the thing done and wouldn’t letting your brain (or the blocking!) control you.

This week, I’d like you to catch yourself anytime you are blocking and create a starting point.
