How to Find Your Missing Items

CUSTOM JAVASCRIPT / HTML

I saw a statistic (I don’t know if it’s true!) the average person wastes 3 hours a week looking for missing items.
Even if it’s not true, you probably relate to it on some level.
Let’s change that!

Thinking Skills

Thinking is not one big thing.
Thinking is made up of 28 thinking skills called cognitive functions.

When one of these cognitive functions are weak it effects all areas of your life and is a called a cognitive deficiency.

If you find yourself wasting a lot of time looking for things you need, you may be struggling with the cognitive deficiency of unsystematic exploratory behavior - meaning you look everywhere and anywhere without being able to find what you need.

Systematic Search

Systematic search is a simple to understand strategy that will help you find whatever you are looking for.

Systematic search is about creating a system to look for the thing you are looking for. It can be top to bottom, right to left, front to back.

It doesn’t make a difference what the system is as long as you follow it.

For example, if you are looking for your keys, you’ll start from the front of the house and go to the back, in each room, go from left to right and top to bottom covering all grounds.

You have to make sure you don’t skip anything and follow your system.

Benefits of Systematic Search

2 major benefits of systematic search:

1. You’re looking in all places and at the same time not wasting time looking in the same place more than once (‘cuz I know you’ve done that before!)

2. Your brain calms down because you now have a system, so you don’t stress as much (and many times your brain remembers where you ended up putting it.)

Warning: It will feel like it’s taking ages. In the beginning, it will but as time goes on, you’ll get better at systematic search and more importantly you’ll find what you are looking for!

Your Challenge

Your challenge this week is next time you’re looking for something - do systematic search!
