And how does it affect your life?
Imagine you decide it’s time to get your house in order, so you think you need to hire a professional organizer.
I’m here to tell you, this may not be your best solution.
By hiring a professional organizer, you are putting on a band aid on the real issue.
The professional organizers will help you for a moment, but it wouldn’t last forever because your core issues will start spilling over.
The real problem is in your thinking skills - you may be struggling with a cognitive function.
Cognitive functions are the things that make up thinking.
They are thinking skills that help you do any task.
In order to organize your house, some of the cognitive functions you need to use are comparing, categorizing or labeling.
Without these strong thinking skills, it’s going to be hard for you to organize your house.
What’s going to happen if you hire someone to organize your house without you improving these cognitive functions, your house will get organized, but you’ll have a very hard time keeping it that way.
Just like when you have leak you don’t want to fix the hole without fixing the leak, you don’t want to waste time, money and energy on trying to solve your problems without solving the core issue.
Most core issues are either:
Emotions and cognition are related and affect each other. And it can be both=)
Your challenge this week is took look out and see if your actions are solving your core issues or you are just putting on band aid.
