You start answering emails, rearranging your desk and doing a lot of busy work. 2 hours in you’ve got no real work done.
There are a lot of reasons why you might be struggling with planning. Such as the cognitive deficiency of understanding time or an episodic grasp of reality.
The big one we’re going to focus on today is… drumroll… Having a need to make a plan.
But first - What is a cognitive function?
Cognitive functions are the things that make up thinking. That’s right, thinking is not one big thing but made up of 28 parts called cognitive functions.
The cognitive function of having to need a make a plan is just like it sounds - understanding the value in WHY you should plan.
This cognitive functions in NOT about making the plan - that’s a mental operation.
Mental operations are when we take a whole bunch of cognitive functions together to do the actual task we are doing - so in this case, making the plan and following it through.
In future episodes we’ll go deeper on mental operations and how to plan your day effectively.
But none of that is going to work if your brain doesn’t understand why you should make a plan.
So, let me ask you, why should you make a plan?
