What’s the best way to plan your day?
The way that works with YOUR Brain.
In last week’s episode, episode 368, we spoke about the cognitive function of having a need to make a plan.
Cognitive Functions are the skills that make up thinking.
When we combine cognitive functions together, we create a mental operation, which is essentially your daily tasks - like making a plan.
Some of the cognitive functions needed to make a plan are:
1) Having the need to make a plan
2) Aware of time
3) Understanding of reality
4) Categorizations
5) Summing up
6) Projecting virtual relationships
And a few more, but I’m not gonna bore you with them;)
Because every person has different strong and weak cognitive functions, in this episode, we’re not going to discuss ways to improve your cognitive functions for planning.
Rather, I’ll be sharing with you, key factors to keep in mind when planning so it works WITH your brain, not against it.
Here are 4 key factors to keep in mind when planning your day so it WORKS for you:
1. Awareness - You KNEW I was going to start with it.
You’ve got to understand your brain, your strengths your weakness and work together with them. Be conscious about what is working and what isn’t.
2. Family and other Important Responsibilities - when you're planning your day, make sure to keep in mind your family routines and obligations.
For example, if your kids come home from school at 3:00 and you want to be there for them, make sure you plan it accordingly.
Be careful here. You don’t want to say, I never have time to get things done because of all the responsibilities I have. Rather, take the responsibility in your hands, see what you can delegate, how you can rearrange previous schedules and come up with creative solutions. This is about being proactive and taking control of your situation.
3. Habits and routines - What can you change or add so your life is more productive?
When my dad had his spinal injury and became parallelized, my schedule was a mess, and it was even more important to be productive. I created a short routine for when I came home from the rehab, so it primed my brain into being able to focus on work even when I got almost no sleep. Shower, Dress, Prayer, Coffee, Post TikToks, Work on #1 important tasks.
What habit or routine can you create so your day runs smoothly?
4. Do your most important task first - as the day goes on more action happens and less work gets done, so don’t waste your time on busy tasks in the beginning of the day. Start with what’s most important.
Your challenge this week to plan your day every day using the key factors we spoke about.
