What are cognitive functions?
Cognitive functions are thinking skills that effect every action you take.
There are 28 cognitive functions in total and we all have weak ones and stronger ones.
When all your cognitive functions are strong then you know what to do to handle any situation.
You know you have the ability to identify the real problem.
You know you have the ability to either solve the problem or know who to turn to.
This gives you the confidence that you’ll be able to figure it out.
You have the tools to deal with any situation.
When I was in 5th grade I still struggled with reading. I was going to the top tutors in town and not making improvements.
My parents then decided to bring in Feuerstein mediators from Israel (where this whole method is a lot more popular) and I started rewiring my brain.
Up until that point, I was super shy, didn’t have many friends, I didn’t want to answer teachers’ questions or even ask my own.
During the process of rewiring my brain, my confidence grew. I built on my strengths, started thinking in new ways and developed a whole toolbox of thinking skills to use throughout my day.
By the time I was done with Feurstein sessions, I was one of the loudest, most confident kid in the class.
