If someone comes to you for advice, tips or looking for an answer, you can tell them
OR
You use these 3 ways to help them come up with the conclusion themselves.
If you’ve listened to episode 354, you know the best way to give a person advice is not to tell them but to mediate them.
Mediation is a process of asking questions to help a person come to a conclusion themselves.
People don’t like being told what to do and usually just go into passive mode when you’re talking to them like that.
If you ask them questions, it turns them from passive to active, and helps them come up with the best answers for them.
The better questions you ask, the easier it will be for them to find the answer they are looking for.
Today I’m turning it around on you - not all mediation is questions.
You see, there are 3 types of mediation:
The tricky part here is that many times you do more than one of them at once. If you clap your hands to regain focus while you’re asking them a question, you're focusing and verbal at once.
You don’t have to know exactly what groups it falls under, but by knowing there are more ways to help someone come to the conclusion, you are more equipped to do good meditation.
Up until now, you have only thought asking questions is what you need to do to help them come to the conclusion, and it’s true, it's the main one.
But many times, we have more options that makes the situation more dynamic, fun and helps us get the results we want.
Meditation will not work if you aren’t connected to the person.
The person has to trust you, has to realize what you are doing is for their benefit.
No passive aggressive going on here. They have to feel you care about them and want the best for them and then and only then will you be able to help them get the result that they want.
Meditation is an amazing process we can use to help others figure out challenges they are in.
There are 3 types of meditation:
1. Verbal, asking questions.
2. Focusing, helping them focus on a specific idea
3. Motor, using their hands, or any part of their body to help them figure it out.
This week your challenge is to part using all the types of meditation. It doesn’t all have to be at the same time, but I want you to be aware of it.
