Do you use self-talk or do you just find it weird?
Talking to yourself may look weird to others but it most definitely will help you when you’re in a challenging situation.
Self-talk is not a cognitive function.
It’s a strategy used to help improve our cognitive functions, our thinking skills.
Whenever you are in a situation where don’t know what to do, a self-talk can help you figure out what the problem is and how you can solve it.
So how do you do self-talk?
Simply by talking to yourself.
Usually it’s what you are already thinking inside your head and you’re just saying it outload. “I can’t take on this client right now, because I’m working on a big project…” or “If I add an additional bonus to the offer...”
By you saying it out loud you’re gonna notice more information or details you didn’t notice before and it will be easier for your brain to make connections & conclusions.
For example, If you’re lost, and you’re using self-talk it might sound like this, “I’m at 12th ave and I just past 13th ave. I need to get to 6th ave so I need to turn around” - cognitive function of orientation in space.
Another example: “This client is having a lot going right now, what can I do to make it a little easier?” simply saying it out load might help you come up with an idea.
That is one of the reasons why talking to a friend helps so much.
By simply talking about it, your brain has an easier time processing all the information.
Your challenge this week is to try self-talk at least 3 times, even if it seems uncomfortable at first.
You’ve got to give it a try before you decide if you like it or not.
