Kim had big ideas, like launching a newsletter or finally redecorating her office, but she found herself procrastinating on her ideas because well, they felt too big.
She wasn’t lazy.
If anything she was a really hard working person.
Sometimes she wondered if was because she lacked the confidence.
Or days she worried she’d start and not finish.
Her brain just got overwhelmed before she even began.
Once we helped her brain see the task differently, everything shifted.
Suddenly, things that felt impossible became doable because her brain knew exactly what to do.
While you are doing any task, you (without even realizing it!) are using your 28 thinking skills.
When the thinking skills you need to use are strong, doing the task happens easily.
If the thinking skill you need to use is weak, doing the task will be a challenge.
The struggle that Kim had, came from a weak thinking skill of clear perception
Last week, we spoke about clear perception when you’re not taking in enough information.
Today, we’re gonna cover what happens when you’re taking in too much information and it becomes overwhelming.
If you ever walked into a room you knew you needed to clean, but instead of cleaning it, you walked right back out because it was just way too overwhelming, your thinking skills of clear perception is blurry.
A ton of information is coming in, and your brain doesn’t know what to do about it.
We take in information through our 5 senses.
Most of the time, the information is coming in a clear and organized way.
But if that information is coming too much too fast, it very quickly gets overwhelming and we don’t want to deal with it.
What if you turned this big task into a TV Show?
You see, this whole big task is a massive show, but you don’t need to worry about season six when you’re still in episode one of season one.
Every part of the task is another episode, and you have to focus on the episode you are currently in.
So if cleaning the messy room is the whole show, picking up the garbage to see immediately is episode one.
If you’re getting overwhelmed by starting an email list, deciding what topic you’re talking about is episode one.
This works extremely well because not only does it create clarity, you also create many opportunities for yourself to get a dopamine hit.
Every time you do a part of the task, one episode, you get to give yourself a “check”, an opportunity to celebrate that you finished an episode, a part.
When too much information is coming into our brain at time it gets super overwhelming.
Your challenge this week is to look at your tasks as a TV and each part of the task is just an episode.
